Thank you to two donations to assist AAPLH with her purchasing cost.
We purchased her from the auctioneer in March. She was put thru a sale last spring (2011 ) and was in foal at that time. She had a colt a near cremello colt and he was sold at the March auction, however, Splash wasn't going to be put thru the auction due to her blindness but he had a deal with the local meat guy to take her for slaughter instead. I couldn't let that happen to her, so unfortunately had to pay him quite a price to save this sweet mare.
If anyone is able to help me out with the expenses of purchasing her I would greatly appreciate any donations towards her purchase & care. I know some will say I'm crazy to put that much money out for her, but I just couldn't leave her there, I have been working on getting her out of there for the past 6 months.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY PREVIOUS INFORMATION ON HER (we named her) I WOULD LOVE ANYTHING ANYONE MIGHT BE ABLE TO TELL ME ABOUT HER. I think last year they mentioned she came from the Keene area?
She has settled in nicely, and is now ready for her new loving family!
She has really bonded with me and loves attention, walks right up first one to greet me.
She will stand there tied to be groomed. Loves people and getting fussed over for attention & rubbed & scratched. Leads well. First one to the gate to greet you!
She is sound. She is obviously very low end of pecking order & will allow the others to push her out of the feeders.
HOUSING: She is currently outside 24/7 with a shelter. Doesn't mind being stalled at night. Low end of pecking order, loves our foals. Would be good with another quiet horse or foal for company. Seems to be better in larger areas compared to the stall, safe fencing for her is a must and not electric only. Currently in a cedar rail fenced area with 3 others.
EYESIGHT: She is totally blind in the one eye, however she can definately see somewhat out of the other eye. She is great and very attentive to sounds and listens to my voice with the blind horse tilt to her head..
HEALTH: Is healthy, she has quite a belly, but was still nursing the colt until he was purchased. Still has a baby belly, plus needed deworming which has been done since being here. She easily finds the hay & water in new surroundings, so definately can seem somewhat. Her hooves probably hadn't been done in the past year, so very long & dished but coming along nicely.
FUTURE: She would make a pet. Gets along well with Geldings & Mares really loves our mini & colt. Loves the attention of being brushed & gentle handling. They stated she was halter broke and that children had been on her on a lead line.
SHE LEADS, EASY TO CATCH, STANDS WELL FOR GROOMING and EASY TO TRAILER.
Splash really is a sweet girl with a wonderful personality. Loves attention.
PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING SPLASH A PERMANENT LOVING HOME.
